I was gifted this mascara in the color true brown. It was suggested to me by a family member who is an ophthalmologist. She told me that because of my history of Blepharitis whenever I wear mascara that I should try a tubing mascara…. And they bought it for me.
TBH I was reluctant to try it, and it sat in the drawer for weeks. The first time I tried it I had a lot of clumping, but that was because I was applying it the way I would a normal mascara. I found out that that’s not the way to put tubing mascara on. You’re not supposed to pump it at all or layer heavily. Just take the wand out of the tube slowly, apply it to your lashes in very slow sweeps and not overdo it.
I tried that the second time and it was perfection. Whenever I use it, I just take it out of the container slowly without pumping the wand, slowly brush my lashes, and that’s it. There’s no reason to layer it.
I’ve seen videos of people layering it, but they never look right. I can tell you that layering is not the way to go and is not necessary. I’ve tried taking a few photos of my eyes, but they come out blurry so you’ll just have to take my word for it.
And if you’ve ever had issues with Blepharitis due to sensitivity to other mascara that were non-tubing, give this one a try. I’m grateful to my cousin the ophthalmologist who gave me this and told me that I would not have a problem and she was right.
I definitely recommend it and it’s so easy to take off, you can just use warm water or a little HOCL and it comes right off… without being rough on your lashes.

It is a nice mascara. Is it the greatest, no. I use mostly L'Oreal voluminous mascara in black. I'm noticing that I'm having more sensitive eyes over the years ( they water and itch at times when I wear eye makeup) so I decided to revisit Maybelline, and decided also to do a kinder more gentle color for my eyes. I bought a tube of true brown ( not as harsh as a color) and a burgundy haze because some have said it accents hazel eyes. The last time I wore colored mascara was 40+ years ago ( yikes I can't believe I can say that). The brown is arriving tomorrow. I tried the burgundy haze today. Curled my lashes and applied. The brush is nice and the product is thin and on the drier side but you can apply several coats without it glopping up. The burgundy looks more like a darker brown tone once on, but it's still nice. It didn't make my lashes sky high ( alas the joy of getting older) so if I want truly longer lashes I will probably need lattese growth serum to my regimen. I am giving it 4/5 stars because of the color not appearing a true burgundy. This far points for not causing my eyes to irritate or tear up. Maybe a 4.5 out of five.

I recently just used the rest of my favorite mascara which is Too Faced’s Better than Sex original mascara in black, so I was looking to see if this would be a cheaper alternative with similar results. I saw that this was the #1 selling mascara at the moment so I ordered this in both the Very Black shade and the Burgundy Haze shade. I was impressed that this is marketed as being washable mascara, with no fallout or smudges.
Normally when using a new mascara the first few applications you use tend to be clumpy but with this new Maybelline Lash Sensational Sky High line there is absolutely no clumps even from the first few applications. That’s impressive!! It’s also very buildable. The wand itself is flexible silicone and is very soft. The Very Black shade is rich and coated my lashes beautifully! It gives length AND fullness with ZERO CLUMPS and looked beautiful! I love the Very Black shade!!
The burgundy shade is nice but it didn’t quite look burgundy on my blue eyes, more like a brown. I was little disappointed in the burgundy for that reason. But once again, no clumps, and nice length. Less volume in this shade.
While they were both impressive with their results, I did realize that they had a strong odor of alcohol that I’ve never smelled with any other mascara. I’m not sure what ingredient it is that creates that smell but it’s definitely a bit off putting. Even after a minute or two of wearing I could smell the alcohol from my lashes! Not even the applicator. It did dissipate, and after those initial first couple minutes I couldn’t smell it again.
When I went to remove each shade at the end of a 10 hour work day, I could see that there had been no smudging and no fallout under my eyes at all. That’s impressive to me! I use Elemis’ Pro Collagen cleansing balm to remove makeup and I did have a little bit of a struggle to remove. It seemed to really coat my lashes similar to tubing mascara. But with a little extra effort I was able to fully remove just fine.
Overall I would recommend the Very Black shade version because it’s a very budget friendly mascara with great results (I was able to get each of them on sale for $7.49!) but I wouldn’t repurchase the burgundy shade again.

I am SO picky about mascara. The consistency needs to be just so, I don’t like when it clumps, I hate when it’s too wet, I also prefer a fluffier brush, but this stuff is AMAZING. This photo was taken after 12 hours of wear (waterproof). Technique: I apply one coat of mascara, brush the lashes out with a clean spoolie to lessen the amount of product. I then apply a second coat and brush with the spoolie to separate the lashes. I get amazing length and separation! I don’t think I’ll be trying another mascara anytime soon. 10/10!
